Quality Hill
Work crews are swarming high atop Quality Hill, Kansas City's original, historic residential neighborhood. C.R.E.S. Management LLC bought 21 residential buildings in February 2008, and is refurbishing with new roofs, new paint, new kitchens, new appliances, new bathrooms, new flooring, new lighting, new hardware and new landscaping.

"Quality Hill is new again," says Teresa Lippert, principal of C.R.E.S. Management. "We are updating every detail with state-of-the-art features, while being careful to preserve the historic charm that makes Quality Hill unique." Apartments are now available for rent or condominiums can be purchased beginning at $140,000.

"Our focus for this project is the historical preservation of Kansas City's first neighborhood," says Lippert. "Quality Hill dates back to 1858, and we are proud to be doing this in 2008, commemorating the 150th birthday of the community."

Indeed, Quality Hill plays a story-book role in the birth of Kansas City. Kersey Coates, who built the Coates House at 10th Street and Broadway Blvd., was the first to build his farm residence atop the bluffs. In fact, Lewis & Clark stood atop Quality Hill in 1803, which has the highest elevation in the city, and declared that its altitude and views would be "a fine place for a fort."

As Coates encouraged more of Kansas City's civic and industrial leaders to build on the hill, area citizens began to refer to the place informally as "Quality Hill," due to the rich mansions located there. The name stuck.

Over the years, Quality Hill has had its ups and downs, but its lasting beauty and historical sentiment have always prevailed. "The location of Quality Hill, immediately west of downtown Kansas City between 9th and 12th Streets, assures its perpetuity," says Lippert. "Residents can walk to the River Market, to the Kansas City Public Library and to any number of iconic landmarks, such as the Majestic Steak House, Savoy Grill, the Folly Theater and Quality Hill Playhouse."

Quality Hill is approximately 10 blocks northwest of Kansas City's new Power & Light District and seven blocks north of the Music Hall. C.R.E.S Management is taking a thorough approach to renovating every aspect of the project including the swimming pool, the landscaping, and the common areas of the buildings.

"We are working with the finest materials to renovate the living spaces," says Lippert. All homes come complete with granite countertops, tile backsplashes, tile or slate shower enclosures, stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, tile kitchens and baths, and new carpet.

The Quality Hill Condominium sales center is open daily at 1003 Broadway Blvd. on the ground floor of the Coates House. Call 816-472-HOME, for an appointment or visit the website at www.QualityHillCondos.com.
